- According to rumors, Apple will work on an AI search tool
- Feature that should be launched in 2026 and could be fueled by Google
- iPhone 17 should be unveiled next week
Apple would work on a search engine fed by AI which could be powered by Google, according to a first initiate.
Mark Gurman, Bloomberg Apple Expert, reports that Apple “plans to launch its own web search tool fueled by artificial intelligence next year, inventing competition with Openai and Perplexity Ai Inc.”
This comes following previous reports that Apple examined potential opportunities to improve its AI offer, following the disappointing launch of Apple Intelligence almost 12 months ago.
Gurman has spoken to “people with knowledge of the issue” who claim that the project is called “answers from the world of knowledge” and will be integrated into an improved version of Siri.
According to the report, some managers call the software to come a “response engine” and Apple “aims to publish the service in the spring”.
From Gurman’s article, it seems that the responses to global knowledge will operate in a similar way to Chatgpt research or the AI mode of Google, allowing users to ask Siri answers and listen to the voice assistant responds.
Interestingly, Gurman claims that technology that could feed this new feature could be fueled by Google. He claims that “companies have concluded an official agreement this week so that Apple evaluated and tests an AI model developed by Google to help feed the voice assistant.”
This would not be surprising, in particular given the previous reports according to which Apple was interested in implementing the Gemini AI model of Google in Apple Intelligence.
The intelligence we expected?
Gurman says that the “new research experience will include an interface that uses text, photos, videos and local interest points, according to his sources. He will also offer a summary system powered by AI designed to make the results more quickly digestible and more precise than what is offered by current Siri.”
Although it seems incredibly promising, it is worth taking with a grain of salt, in particular given the actions of Apple with the launch of features fueled by the AI. Although Gurman is generally very precise with his reports, so many things can change during the development of a product that should launch almost 12 months.
Apple is preparing for its biggest week of the year when it reveals the iPhone 17 on September 9, and even if we do not expect to see a lot of Apple Intelligence during the event, perhaps the company based in Cupertino has a surprise of AI aligned.
Time will tell us if this SIRI search engine powered by AI is materialized, but given the increase in the popularity of generative AI tools, I suspect that this could be massive success.
