- A new leak says that the iPados 19 will obtain a Mac menu bar
- Scene manager 2.0 will also come to iPad and iPhone, says the report
- There are reasons to doubt rumors, however
For years, a small but vocal technology fans has asked Apple to essentially merge iPados and macOS into a sort of hybrid operating system that works on the two platforms. Apple has constantly rejected this idea, but a new rumor suggests that the two systems could soon get closer when the iPados 19 will be launched later this year.
According to Leaker Majin BU, the main changes will take place when you connect a magic keyboard to an iPad executing iPados 19. When this occurs, BU says that a menu bar will appear at the top of the iPad screen, offering you an experience more similar to Mac.
In addition to that, BU arises that the iPados 19 will be delivered with internship manager 2.0, an update of the multitasking function which “activates automatically when the keyboard is attached”. BU indicates that the new version of internship manager “will make management applications and smoother and more productive windows than ever”, but is no longer in detail.
In addition to iPados 19, BU approached what could happen in iOS 19. There, the flight said that iPhones with a USB-C port-that is to say those of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 ranges-will be able to run the stage manager when connected to an external monitor.
This would extend your iPhone display rather than simply reflecting it, as is currently the case. BU noted that this functionality could be accompanied by certain limits, “possibly in resolution or the number of applications displayed at the same time”.
Large questions remain
Majin BU has a somewhat uneven record for apple leaks and rumors, so their latest claims should be treated with a degree of skepticism. But apart from their history, there are other reasons to be doubtful.
On the one hand, Apple has long declared that the fusion of ipados and macOS elements means that the two systems are lacking, with too much compromise necessary to operate the hybrid platform. In this spirit, the portage directly a macOS element like the menu bar through iPados feels a little too close to the kind of thing against which Apple has long pleaded.
In addition to this, adding a stage manager to the iPhone is incredibly niche, because the number of people who will want to use an iPhone for productivity in this way is probably very low.
Could the support of the stage manager be something designed for the next foldable iPhone? This device will probably have a screen around the size of an iPad Mini, where better productivity tools could make more sense.
We will have to hang on that one, because the foldable iPhone should not arrive before 2026 or 2027. But while we expect, iPados 19 and iOS 19 should land at the Global Conference of Apple Developers (WWDC) in June. This could be when we finally see if the claims of Majin BU are on money.
