- The iPhone 17 series could be unveiled on September 9
- He could then ship on September 19
- We have detailed five of the biggest changes you can expect from these phones
We have long predicted – on the basis of the usual Apple models – that the iPhone 17 series would be announced on September 8, 9 or 10, and now a leak agrees with us, while being more specific.
According to “internal information for German mobile phones suppliers” shared by iPhone -Ticker.de (via GSMARENA), the iPhone 17 series – including the iPhone 17 itself, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max – will be revealed on Tuesday, September 9.
They add that these phones will be apparently shipped a week and a half later, Friday, September 19.
Although we took these claims with a pinch of salt, it is credible that large retailers now have this information. In addition, it corresponds to our own forecasts and does not influence other leaks, so for the moment, we say that September 9 seems to be the most likely announcement date.
In this case, there is only a little more than a month to wait for the next Apple handsets, and these phones are probably worth waiting, because many upgrades and changes have been tilted. Below, we have listed five of the biggest changes we are waiting for.
1. A new design
Perhaps the biggest change for the iPhone 17 line may be visual, with many sources suggesting that these handsets will get an overhaul.
The main change should arrive at the camera block, which would end over the entire rear width on most models, giving these phones a more similar appearance to Google Pixel 9.
This change could also allow a larger part of a two -color color set, the large camera block being shiny while the rest of the rear is more matt.
2. An iPhone 17 air instead of an iPhone 17 Plus
Another big rumor change is the replacement of the model plus with an iPhone 17 air. This new model would be much thinner than any previous iPhone, probably coming about 5.5 mm thick, which would make it a more direct rival with the Samsung Galaxy S25 edge.
However, due to his thin, he could also have a small battery and had only one rear camera.
So, it is a phone that could prioritize style compared to specifications, although it can always have a large 6.7 -inch screen like the iPhone 16 Plus.
3. A 120 Hz refresh rate for each model
Apple has continued to stick to 60 Hz screens on basic iPhones, despite most mid -range Android phones that have had 120 Hz screens for years now. But with the iPhone 17 line, Apple could finally get over time.
Many reports suggest that the four models expected will have a 120 Hz screen, which should make the scrolling more fluid.
However, a source says that even if the screens will all be at 120 Hz, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 air will still not have a variable refresh rate, which means that, unlike their pro brothers and sisters, they would probably not support the display always on, because this requires a very low refresh rate to function without moving the battery. In any case, however, giving them a 120 Hz refresh rate would certainly be an upgrade.
4. New cameras
The iPhone 17 series should also get new cameras, all the models that benefit from it.
On the one hand, the four iPhone 17 models expected will apparently have a 24MP front camera, twice offering you the megapixels of the current 12 MP. We have also heard that the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max could have a telephoto of 48 MP, which would be up only 12 MP on current models.
Some less likely but always possible upgrades that we have heard of include 8K video recording for pro models and a mechanical opening for at least one iPhone 17 model. This last upgrade would allow you to adjust the opening, and therefore also the depth of field.
And there are also some camera upgrades that we are not convinced, we will not see, but we cannot completely exclude, including an 8x optical zoom for iPhone 17 pro models and a second camera control button for the four models.
5. A big boost of the power
Finally, a completely unsurprising but always appreciated upgrade that we hear about is an increase in power thanks to a new chipset.
More specifically, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max may have a new A19 Pro chipset, while iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 air could have an A19 chipset. In any case, this should be an improvement, because current models use A18 or A18 Pro chipsets.
In addition, the iPhone 17 PRO, the iPhone 17 Pro Max, and maybe also the iPhone 17 air could have 12 GB of RAM – increasing 8 GB in the iPhone 16 series.
