- iPhone Air 2 could have dual rear cameras
- This second snapper is apparently an ultrawide, but Apple is only considering it
- iPhone Air 2 screen and design may not change
There’s a lot to like about the iPhone Air, but in making it so thin, Apple made some big compromises, including equipping the phone with just one rear lens. This same compromise might not be made with the iPhone Air 2, however.
According to Digital Chat Station (via 9to5Mac), the iPhone Air 2 could have a 48 MP ultra-wide camera as well as its 48 MP main one.
It seems like this is something Apple is currently considering, rather than something it has decided, but we certainly hope it happens, because a high-end phone with a single rear camera is a tough sell.
That said, we’d take this with a pinch of salt, because not only is Apple apparently only considering this, but it’s a claim that is at odds with another recent iPhone Air 2 leak, which once again pointed to a single rear camera. Additionally, it might be difficult for Apple to add a second rear camera without making the phone thicker, so that would also be a consideration for the company.
Stay the same
In any case, Digital Chat Station claims that the iPhone Air 2 will see few other changes, apparently once again featuring a 6.5-inch 120Hz display, Face ID, a thin and light build and the same general design as the original iPhone Air – aside from the possible presence of an additional lens, as you can see in the image they shared above.
We certainly hope some things get upgraded on the iPhone Air 2, so if all of that stays the same, then it would make sense to add an extra camera.
Otherwise, the only real upgrade might be the chipset, and since the original iPhone Air already isn’t selling well, any successor really needs more than just a power boost to turn things around.
Still, the iPhone Air 2 leaks are still in their early stages, since that phone likely won’t land until September, so there’s every chance we’ll learn about other possible upgrades in the coming months.
