The last phone “ mini ” that we saw of Apple was the mini iPhone 13 of 5.4 inch, which was launched in September 2021, and was replaced by the iPhone 14 more than 6.7 inches – and it seems unlikely that Apple brings an iPhone model smaller from soon.
Bloomberg journalist, Mark Gurman, who is generally a reliable source with regard to Apple, said in a live Q&R (via macrumors) that Apple was “really distant” from smaller shape factors and that his engineers “do not work on an iPhone smaller at the moment”.
The current iPhone range includes the 6.1 inch iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 more than 6.7 inches, 6.3 inch iPhone 16 and 6.9 inch iPhone 16 – so if you want something smaller than 6.1 inches in terms of display size, you are not lucky.
Gurman said that Apple could one day reconsider his position if market pressures change, but do not expect anything in the predictable future. This year, the iPhone 16 Plus should be replaced by iPhone 17 air, perhaps with the same screen size.
Should Apple reconsider?
Apple has never officially said anything, but market reports suggested that the iPhone 13 Mini was not a large seller – who probably sealed his fate. But according to many Techradar readers, the iPhone 13 Mini was the perfect size for a smartphone.
We directed a survey on the Techradar WhatsApp channel asking you to size your favorite phone screen. The top of the battery, with 241 votes out of 799 (31%), was the largest size in addition to the foldable: 6.9 inch or more phones, such as the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
In second place, however, phones with screens of less than 6 inches – like, for example, the iPhone 13 Mini. This size obtained 171 votes (21%), but unfortunately for little phone fans, it becomes more and more difficult to find more compact handsets.
Obviously, not enough people who love smaller handsets have come out and bought an iPhone 13 Mini, and Apple took note. If you fall into this category, you can try a foldable flip like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 instead.
