Perhaps more than most of the technological gadgets with which I have played in recent years, the Amazon Colordeft Kindle scribe feels like the listening product.
It is a thinner, lighter, more open, more intelligent and certainly more colorful product than the scribe that preceded it. The health ereader seems to respond practically to each update of the list of wishes and perhaps a little more.
Admittedly, my time with the new E-Ink Color E-Ink system, which Amazon unveiled on Tuesday September 30, 2025) during its huge 2025 aircraft event, was limited, but I will not lie; I am already impressed.
The specifications tell a part of the story. This scribe scribe colorsoft manages to offer a larger screen, 11 inch, against 10.2 inches on the 2024 scribe, while being 33 grams lighter and 0.4 mm thinner.
The design is much more classic, similar to a tablet, with a balanced telescope surrounding the new screen ready for colors. Aside from the Kindle logo and four tiny rubber feet, the back is spotless. There is a power button on an edge, and the lower edge is just thick enough to house the USB-C load port.
Paper design
By holding the tablet in my hand, I was amazed to see how light and thin. I had no trouble grabbing a corner firmly and supporting its weight with only two fingers. It is so thin that the pen is now slightly thicker than the colordoft chassis of Scribe. It is a good thing that Amazon has increased the power of the internal magnet. I did my best to shake the scribe pencil in vain.
The user -friendly screen is fast and practically sparkling, which I noticed because we quickly slipped through sketches and previous notes.
And, of course, it is a screen adapted to colors, which means that in addition to the net and 300ppi text, you can mark and sketch in half a dozen colors (there is also a color mixture wheel that I have not tried) and display the contents up to 4,096 colors (at 150ppi). There are a variety of pens, although I think the fountain pen is the most satisfactory.
Reading and writing
Now I have read content on the pretty Kindle Colordeoft of Amazon, but being able to draw and mark colors on an E-Ink device is a completely different thing.
First, the pen on digital paper is remarkably reactive. It looked like pink, green, yellow and black ink flowing from the pen included and directly on the screen. There is no visible distance between the tip of the pen and the output on the screen. In addition, the pen and the screen have exceptionally worked well to recognize the pressure. I am amazed at the way I could effortlessly pass from the thickest line to the thinnest, almost thin like a touch of hair.
This type of response has established a reference for what you should expect from an E color device.
The colors, in general, also look vibrant and, in some respects, slightly brighter than what we have seen on the original Kindle Colorleoft. This is probably due to the fact that the pile of images on the new device is thinner, and although Amazon miniaturized the LEDs of this device, there are in fact more.
I am also impressed that the new Kindle Scribe Colordoft is more open than its predecessor, because it is ready to work directly with OneDrive and Google Drive for importing files. Export, however, remains a little more limited insofar as the two platforms will only receive PDF files from the Colorsoft Scribe. Finally, you can send notes in Alexa +.
There are other productivity features which, even if I could not try them, promise to make them a more open and useful system. They include research fueled by AI, fast notes and workspace to bring together books, PDFs and other files.
Cool cost
Now for the bad news. This nice equipment starts at $ 629 for a 32 GB model. The previous Kindle screen (monochrome, of course) started at $ 399. And this price does not even offer you the great brown option.
Since it is an e-ink device, it sips the power (even with activated LEDs) and can last 8 weeks in a single load. If you write there every day for about 30 minutes, the lifespan of your battery can be reduced to two weeks, which is always quite good by my book.
It is early with the new Amazon Kindle Colorsoft scribe. I like the look of this one, the feeling of this one and the performance of it, but I am worried about the price. It is clearly a powerful and colorful tool for those who have deep pockets and an interest in seeing, creating and doing color work.
We will know with certainty if it is worth it once we have carried out our full battery of tests.
