The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has launched a free solar panel program to provide sustainable energy solutions to low -income households, Express News reported.
As part of the initiative, 130,000 households recorded as part of the EHSAAS program and the Benazir income support program will receive free solar systems.
In the first phase, 32,500 beneficiaries will be selected via a lottery system, with the priority given to private electricity and very affected areas. The scheme also includes orphans, widows, disabled and transgender people.
Households selected by the draw will receive a solar panel, a controller, a battery, bulbs and a fan.
KP Minister of KP, Ali Amin Gandapur, said the initiative aims to cope with power shortages in the province. “We provide free solar systems to 130,000 people due to electricity problems in the region. Most applications come from Dera Ismail Khan, but we will distribute them to merit, “he said.
He added that all members of the Provincial Assembly (AMP) have been informed that the selection process will be carried out by the lottery. “Performance should be real competition. KP has always led in performance and I put everyone on everyone on this basis, “he said.
