- The iPhone 17 air battery could be less than 3,000 mAh
- This fits into previous leaks on the handset
- iOS 26 could extend the battery life to last a whole day
When Apple is launching the new iPhone 17 series in September, it seems very likely that there will be a brand new model: the IPhone 17 Air Super-Slip. According to a new rumor, thinness could be done at the expense of the battery capacity.
The famous Tipster Instant Instant Digital (via Macrumors) says that air iPhone 17 will be delivered with a battery less than 3,000 mAh in terms of capacity. The iPhone 16, compared, is equipped with a 3,651 mAh battery.
Of course, we do not know how it will result in a real battery life, but it seems that the new handset could have trouble corresponding to the time between the charges that the current models offer. According to Apple, the iPhone 16 gives you 22 hours of video reading on a single load, although more demanding tasks use more battery life.
According to the same prediction, the energy saving mode on the iPhone – which is improved with a new adaptive mode in iOS 26, also due in September – means that you can spend moderate use of a day with iPhone 17 air.
Battery size and battery life
It may not be surprising that the iPhone 17 air comes with a smaller than normal battery. It is logical that if the thickness of the chassis shrinks, then there will be less room for a battery to power the handset.
The previous leaks have put the size of the air battery from the iPhone 17 to 2,800 mAh, which corresponds to new information. However, there have also been rumors around improved battery technology that could allow battery life to provide smaller batteries.
It should also be mentioned that the battery capacity is not the whole story with regard to the battery life, although of course it has a major role. Iphones generally have smaller batteries than the best Android phones, but can maximize battery life through design efficiency and software optimizations.
Keep in mind that none of this is certain until Apple makes it official. If you are wondering what a high-end ultra-thin phone could be use in 2025, see our review Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.
