What to expect from the last season 3
As the Hollywood Reporter explains (with a few spoilers for the great moments of season 2), season 3 will feel different. “It’s more a water season than a fire season,” said Druckmann, while Mazin added, “it’s a warmer season than a warmer season.” And “season three will be star – Spoiler Alert – Kaitlyn.”
I am enthusiastic by season 3, but with a few reservations: as a person who loved and who was probably deeply traumatized while playing The last of us part III thought season 2 of the television show did not feel like the game had done.
It is inevitable with any adaptation, I know, but there were two things in particular that stood out for me (and for my teenager, who is also a fan of the games): the representation of Bella Ramsay of Ellie, and the cast of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby.
In the game, Ellie is a monster – and Abby is built as a reservoir, her body muscular a huge contrast with the thinner construction of Ellie. But in season 2, Ellie is sad, not crazy, and Kaitlyn Dever does not have the physical presence of her equivalent in play. But her rage is just as terrifying, so maybe I just need to forget the game and let the show do its own thing.
I think that one of the things Mazin said about the show explains the different tone of the television program compared to the game: “For me, this is not a program on revenge,” he said. “It’s a show on sorrow.” But if you played the game until the end, you will know that it is the two: it is a meditation on the damage that mourning can do to people, both for themselves and for the others.
