Sony has published a new software update for PlayStation 5 and PSVR 2, which presents a new educational application.
Today, the company has launched Climate Station, a free application for the two consoles that sensitize climate change. It uses the latest game technologies, including virtual reality, to allow users to visualize, interact and understand complex climatic data to learn more about climate change.
This application is Sony’s latest commitment project to the United Nations to play for the Planet Alliance campaign, which aims to bring together the game industry leaders to work towards their durability objectives.
“Whether you are a curious explorer, a data detective or you are looking for something completely unique to dive, this free application available today on PS5 and PSVR 2 is your bridge to understand the forces that shape our world,” said Dan Bardino Senior Development and Operations, PlayStation Studios on PlayStation.
Those with a 4K TV can display the climate station with high quality 4K visuals of the PlayStation 5, while PSVR 2 adds immersion by allowing users to display information in a first -person view.
The application tells the story of climate change through three acts: the meteorological year, observations and projections, and also offers an explanatory library, which includes 90 minutes of multimedia content to explore.
“Make a climate awareness in the houses of millions of people through games will help develop both knowledge and action to combat the triple planetary crisis in climate change, nature and loss of biodiversity, as well as pollution and waste,” said Susan Gardner, director of the Ecosystems division, United Nations Environment Program, in a press release.
“The approach to adapt science in a game format has been impressive. We are impatient to see how players react to this new tool and also recognize the management of Sony Interactive Entertainment by bringing climate science to consoles on the planet.”
