Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse has become a sudden subject of discussion in the middle of the reaction against Simone Biles for defending trans athletes in female sports. Certain criticisms, including the objective of biles in its rant Riley Gaines social media, stressed the abuses perpetrated by Nassar while criticizing the position of biles on trans athletes.
On Wednesday, a gymnastics spokesperson in the United States told PK Press Club Digital that the transgender admissibility policy and the organization’s resource pages had been deleted from his website in May, to “assess compliance with the current legal landscape”.
The main lawyer for American women’s gymnasts who were affected by Nassar, John Manly, weighed on comparisons between Nassar abuses and male biological inclusion in female sports.
“Larry Nassar sexually assaulted children, it’s fundamentally different,” Manly told PK Press Club Digital.

However, Manly believes that the leadership of USA Gymnastics and her method of deciding to authorize trans athletes in the category of women are the same type of leadership method which allowed the Nassar scandal.
“I think that’s right,” said Manly. “”[Female gymnasts] are in this position with this trans athlete in the locker room due to organizations that create politicians. … In this same token, Larry Nassar was created and authorized to flourish because they did not have policies precisely preventing what he was doing. He treated little girls in their hotels alone on their bed, during the Olympic Games, there is no policy against her. “”
Manly added: “The athletes are not the first in this system, this is not the case. The money and the medals are, and the people who manage it are the first.”
President Donald Trump has signed his decree of the execution of female sports “keeping men, but the order only applies to institutions that receive federal funding, while American gymnastics and the American Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) are private entities.
As a lawyer, Manly questioned the validity of the recent excuse of the organization of “compliance with the current legal landscape” to remove the political pages.
“It’s a bunch of nonsense,” said Manly. “It is the companies that speak for” we fear that political winds have changed and that people take a low vision of politics “and they do not want to become buds.
“The reason why Larry Nassar arrived, one, is because they did not put the athletes first, and two, because they slipped and tried to cover it, and [it’s] The same thing here. Make a decision, stand out and defend it. “”
Former Star Gymnast Slams USA Gymnastics for the manipulation of the Policy of Trans Athletes
Unlike Nassar, Manly thinks that blame does not always fall on the trans athletes themselves, especially those who are minors. Manly, who has known Biles for several years, thinks that the gymnast was trying to assert a similar point in her recent controversial diatribe on social networks, but it was “misunderstood”.
“I think it’s a misunderstanding. I think what I suspect what Simone was trying to say is” we must not blame children, athlete children, for competition when these organizations allowed it. But I did not tell him about this … I respect Riley Gaines and, obviously, I respect and love Simone, and I want it to happen, but I can’t talk about it, “said obviously.
In December 2021, Manly helped Biles and her gymnast colleagues to American women Aly Raisonman, McKayla Maroney and Maggie Nichol obtained a settlement of $ 380 million in American gymnastics and USOPC on Nassar abuses.
Since then, the lawyer has followed the impact of the issue on the legal landscape, taking into account the trial of sheaths against the NCAA for the inclusion of the “Will” Thomas Biological Lia in the NCAA 2022 female swimming championship.
“I think it’s really important,” said Manly about the impact of the continuation of sheaths on the history of women’s sport. “The way this takes place will determine if the female sports will continue as we know it or if it will change … The fact that the NCAA is not simply welcomed and arrives at a colony with it is shocking for me.”
Manly says that he would consider placing his own pursuit against the USOPC if American Olympians came to him with a legitimate case.
“I would drop them off to protect women, to protect female athletes, but I should not have to deposit these cases, what should happen is that the USOPC should intervene and say” would protect our athletes and we will have a clarity, “he said.
While Manly hopes that the policies will be clear and allow equitable competition in time for the Los Angeles Olympic Games, he says that he has “no confidence”, the policies will be at that time of the summer of 2028 if the current management of the USOPC remains in power.
“I have no hope for anything with this advice,” he said.
