His father, Maulana Samiul Haq, was a member of the Senate and played an important role in the formation of new religious alliances.

Maulana Hamidul Haqqani played a decisive role in the formation of the United Majlis-Emal, the alliance of religious parties.

In 2001, after the American invasion of Afghanistan, he founded the Afghan Defense Council, which then evolved in MMA, a political alliance of religious parties.
