The Sindh Assembly continued the general discussion on the provincial budget for the next fiscal year on Friday. The two members of the Assembly and the provincial ministers participated in the debate, informing the Chamber about the execution of their respective departments and their future plans.

During the session, chaired by vice-president Anthony Naveed, concerns were raised concerning the restrictions on access to the acting governor at the governor’s house.

The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, informed the Chamber that President Awais Qadir Shah, who has been acting governor for 22 days, was not authorized to enter the governor’s house or exercise his functions.

Lanjhar revealed that Governor Kamran Tessori had sealed the offices and took the keys to Saudi Arabia, which prompted the speaker to approach the court, which ordered the offices. By reading the court’s order in the Assembly, Lanjar has sarcastically noticed that, although Tessori claims to open the governor’s house to the public, the acting governor of the province is closed.

The Minister called on the chief minister to take measures against those responsible, in accordance with the orders of the court.

Former president Agha Siraj Durrani criticized Tessori for prevented the acting governor from the exercise of his functions. Durrani said that the author’s authority was without respect and demanded that Tessori followed the Constitution and apologizes to the Sindh Assembly.

Nisar Ahmed Khoro, the senior parliamentarian, also condemned the actions of the governor, arguing that the country and the assembly took place according to the Constitution. He questioned the governor’s authority about the governor’s house, describing him as a symbol of occupation rather than governance.

He questioned the governor’s motivations, suggesting that the governor’s house is not personal good but a public institution. Khoro demanded that resolution be adopted in the Sindh assembly to solve this problem.

The MQM-P MPA Taha Ahmed argued that the incident involving the acting governor was the result of a misunderstanding and a lack of communication. He said the party respects the acting governor’s office and believes that the question should not be politicized.

He expressed his pride in being part of the community which values his heritage and his history. During the same session, Minister Ali Hassan Zardari highlighted government efforts in the development of infrastructure, announcing 48 new plans in the upcoming budget.
