The Minister of Energy Awais Leghari, ordered the immediate rejection of seven senior officials of the National Transmission & Depatch Company (NTDC) on negligence and delays in critical infrastructure projects, the energy division announced on Wednesday.

Among the people abducted are the deputy director general, two managing directors, financial director and three chief engineers. This decision follows a high -level performance review meeting, during which the Minister seriously expressed ineffectiveness and their growing economic cost.

“The Board of Directors of the NTDC was responsible for showing zero tolerance for delays,” Leghari said in the press release, warning that the ongoing setbacks cost the country “billions of rupees”.

The Minister had previously ordered an investigation into persistent delays in the main transmission and dispatch projects. The Board of Directors of the NTDC subsequently identified systemic failures in planning and execution of the project, in particular in the planning wing, which had been under the supervision of officials now dissected.

The surveys revealed that the ministry had failed to meet deadlines. In response, the Commission has published immediate “OSD” directives (awaiting publication order) for the assistant MD, GMS and the CFO. In addition, three chief engineers have been removed from their posts for what the Council described as “breach of service”.

The NTDC MD was given two weeks to take disciplinary measures against other staff members, including managers and assistant directors who were underperforming.

In order to revise the organization, the Board of Directors of the NTDC also approved a new strategy aimed at combating chronic ineffections in the implementation of the project.

“Each delay in these projects directly harms the Pakistan economy,” added the Minister, reporting the firm government commitment to improve the responsibility and performance of the energy sector.
