The authorities of Lahore completed the construction of what they describe as the most advanced urban road in the country, located in the center of Lahore, officials announced on Monday.
Known as Route 47, the 4.5 -kilometer artery crosses Kalma Chowk and connects several major arteries from the city, notably Ferozepur Road, Gulberg Main Boulevard, Walton Road and the Ring Road Lahore.
The project, which cost approximately 9 billion rupees (approximately 32 million USD), was carried out by the Punjab Central Business District Development Authority (CBD Punjab).
“This road is the central boulevard of the most modern commercial district of the country,” said Imran Amin, CEO of Punjab, the CEO. “It meets international standards and incorporates several smart features.”
The road includes an overflight of almost a kilometer and is equipped with pedestrian tracks and separate bikes. Officials said it was designed to prevent the accumulation of water during precipitation, a frequent problem during the Lahore monsoon season.
The sidewalks along Route 47 are equipped with solar panels, which will provide shade and generate up to a megawatt electricity. “I think it’s Pakistan’s first smart route that will also produce energy,” said Amin.
The route crosses what was formerly Walton Airport, a 300 -acres site now redeveloped in a high -rise commercial area. The area is positioned as the central district of Lahore affairs, part of a broader thrust towards vertical urban development.
Officials have said that infrastructure work in the district is now widely completed, including new sewer systems, rainwater management and the construction of two parking spaces. Rainwater from the region will be channeled by underground systems and directed to an artificial lake, which is also completed.
The government plans to promote CBD as a center for information business and technologies in the years to come.
