The Na panel is looking for PSDP funding

Islamabad:

The Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly proposed to remove the Lyari freight corridor project from the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and include it in the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP).

Friday, officials of the National Highway Authority (NHA) informed the committee that the project should be completed at a cost of 68 billion rupees, but that the delays led to cost climbing.

They said that the Lyari highway takes place on both sides of the Lyari river, and that the plan was to divert the intense traffic from the highway on this corridor. The goal of the corridor was to provide a separate road for intense circulation.

A member of the Committee, Javed Hanif Khan, wondered if the Lyari freight corridor project had been abandoned.

He asked why the projects for Karachi and Sindh were still going under PPP mode. He said that intense traffic enters Karachi even during the day, which is why this project was launched.

“It was just a corridor project of 15 to 16 km, but it was abandoned.

The Committee proposed to move the PPP mode project to the PSDP and also ordered that a position document on the project was submitted by August 26.
