Islamabad:
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly on industries and production opposed a proposal to close public service stores across the country.
During the meeting of the Standing Committee chaired by Syed Hafez Uddin, the members of the Committee said that around 16,000 employees will become unemployed in the event of the closure of public service stores. They quoted the federal minister, said on the floor of the assembly that the public service stores would not be closed. Despite the insurance, if the USC is arrested, this will harm the sacred character of the house, said Na panel.
The committee member, Raja Pervez Ashraf, said that if the ministries are closed on the basis of corruption, the whole country would have closed.
He said that if there were flaws, the government should remove faults. The USC is an important department where people receive price relief, adding “we are strongly opposed to the decision to close the USC”.
Ashraf said it was not appropriate that only a few people make the decision to close a department, the addition of the Parliament should have been confident to make any decision.
