The Algorand Foundation tapped Nikolaos Bougalis, a veteran cryptographer and former engineering manager of Ripple, such as its new technology director, the company said in a press release on Monday.
Bougalis, who has spent almost a decade guiding the development of the Open Source Book XRP, will direct the engineering efforts of Algorand and will help advance its 2025 technical roadmap.
The Algorand Algorand (Algo) token was traded 2.6% more than 24 hours alongside a general price in cryptographic price.
The Algorand roadmap, unveiled in July, focuses on decentralization, the adoption of web3, cases of use of companies and advanced cryptography. Bougalis should play a key role in the alignment of foundation and Algorand technologies around these objectives.
“Nik brings a rich experience in distributed systems, cryptography and blockchain, as well as a demonstrated capacity to promote collaborative development communities,” said CEO of the Algorand Foundation, Stacaci Warden in the press release. “It will help us double decentralization, performance and security.”
Bougalis will be based in the United States because the foundation seeks to extend its footprint among companies and national institutions looking for a complex and scalable blockchain infrastructure.
Its history of security and cryptography should strengthen Algorands’ work on privacy, quantum resistance and scalability.
Algorand, launched in 2019, aims to offer an instant purpose and low costs for manufacturers creating projects in payments, identity, supply chain and asset tokenization. The ecosystem now includes millions of users and a global network of developers using familiar programming languages like Python and Typescript.
