California will compete with Washington in court on Thursday about the deployment of American troops by President Donald Trump in Los Angeles after the demonstrators arrived on the street in big cities to protest against the repression of Trump’s immigration.
Some 700 American navies will be on the streets of Los Angeles by Thursday or Friday, said the army, to support up to 4,000 troops of the National Guard in the protection of federal goods and federal agents, including on immigration raids.
Trump’s decision to dispatch troops to Los Angeles about the objections of the Governor of California Gavin Newsom sparked a national debate on the use of military on American soil and has polarized the country more.
Street demonstrations broke out in several cities in addition to Los Angeles, including New York, Chicago, Washington and San Antonio, Texas.
A federal judge in San Francisco will hear arguments on Thursday as part of the California trial against Trump. The State requests a temporary prohibition order to block the participation of troops in law enforcement activities.
California ultimately wants a court decision that returns its national guard to state control and declares that Trump’s action was illegal.
The demonstrations of it broke out last Friday in response to a series of immigration raids. Trump, in turn, called on Saturday in the National Guard, then summoned the Marines on Monday.
“Los Angeles was healthy and healthy in the last two nights. Our great national guard, with a little help from the Navies, put the Los Angeles police in a position to do their work effectively,” Trump published on social networks on Thursday. “They all worked well together, but without the army, Los Angeles would be a crime scene as we have not seen for years.”
The leaders of the State and the premises dispute that, claiming that Trump only increased the tensions with an unnecessary deployment of federal troops, while the Democrats condemned his action as an authoritarian.
Trump makes a campaign promise to expel immigrants, employing energetic tactics in accordance with the revolutionary political style that elected it twice.
Los Angeles underwent a sixth day of demonstrations on Wednesday which was largely peaceful but sometimes punctuated by violence, mainly contained in a few houses.
In downtown Los Angeles, shortly before the second night of a curfew in an area of a square mortery (2.5 km) Wednesday evening, the police said that the demonstrators at one place had launched fireworks and commercial quality rocks.
Another group of nearly 1,000 demonstrators spanned the city center peacefully when the police suddenly opened fire with less fatal ammunition in front of the town hall.
Marlene Lopez, 39, from Los Angeles, dismantled that flash fringes exploded a few meters away.
“I am here because of the fact that our human rights are violated every day. If we abandon, it’s over. We have to hold our ground here for the nation to follow us,” said Lopez.
An undetermined number of arrests was carried out, in addition to some 400 in the previous days.
New York police said that an unknown number of people had been placed in police custody on Wednesday after declaring Tuesday that 86 had been placed in police custody, 34 of which had been arrested and charged, while the others received criminal judicial assignment.
The demonstrations should develop on Saturday, when several groups of activists planned more than 1,800 anti-top demonstrations across the country. That day, tanks and other armored vehicles will scold in the streets of Washington, DC, in a military parade marking the 250th anniversary of the American army and coinciding with Trump’s 79th anniversary.
Marines trained for the control of crowds
The American navies will join the troops of the National Guard in the streets of Los Angeles within 48 hours, officials announced on Wednesday and would be authorized to hold any person who interferes with immigration agents during raids or demonstrators who would face the federal agents.
A 700 marine battalion had concluded a specific training in the Los Angeles mission, including de -escalation and crowd control, command of the North American said in a statement.
The Navies would join the National Guard under the authority of a federal law known as title 10, not to carry out civilian police but to protect officers and federal goods, said the army.
“Title 10 forces can temporarily hold a person in specific circumstances, as if to stop an assault, to avoid damage to others, or to prevent interference with federal staff exercising their functions,” said the North Command.
Major-general of the American army Scott Sherman, who commands the working group of the Marines and the Guards, told journalists that the Marines would not charge their rifles of living ammunition, but they will wear live rounds.
