The NDMA issues a 48 -hour flood alert through Punjab

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has published a 48 -hour weather alert, warning torrential monsoon rains that grabbed Pakistan river basins.

The humidity -oriented systems from both Bengal Bay and the Arabian Sea should trigger serious precipitation, especially in the higher and central regions of Punjab, raising the risk of urban floods, sudden floods and landslides.

The Ravi river watershed faces the most immediate threat, with reports indicating a high probability of urban flooding and river overflow.

The areas under narrow surveillance include Narowal, Shahdara and the northern suburbs of Lahore, with vulnerable union councils like Kot Mahbo, Aziz Colony, Qaiser Town and Faisal Park in the spotlight.

In Ferozewala Tehsil of Sheikhupura, Faizpur Khu, Burj Attari and Kot Abdul Malik are at increased risks, while Ganesh Pure in Nankana Sahib remains vulnerable. Pattoki Tehsil de Kasur – including Phool Nagar and Kot Sardar – as well as the villages subject to Khanewal’s floods such as Ghauspur and Abdul Hakim, are also closely monitored.

The authorities have urged residents of these areas to prepare emergency kits with essential elements such as drinking water, dry food, drugs and torches while local administrations were also invited to activate emergency plans and strengthen security measures.
