Google exclusively publishes a new application for Pixel phones that will allow users to bring together messages, calls and group cats from various messaging services.
The new Besties application will allow users to centralize the messages of the contacts chosen on Google Messages, WhatsApp and probably other messaging and call applications.
APK disassembly by Android Authority revealed the Besties application in the code from an supposed update update – Besties seems to maintain a database in Android, to which WhatsApp has been shown to be able to access.
In fact, it seems that WhatsApp can only access the beasties because of a special authorization given by Google, which suggests a degree of collaboration between the two.
It follows that other messaging services will also be able to access the database – although there is no way to say with certainty, I would like to see Discord, Microsoft Teams and other meta services like Facebook Messenger and Instagram included in the new Besties application.
An application to govern them all
If the beasties are published, this will mark another step in Google’s continuous work to facilitate communication between platforms and services, which also includes its RCS SMS champion between Android and iPhone.
In theory, there would be nothing to prevent a user from adding all his contacts to the Besties application and using it as an aggregator for all their mobile communications.
This does not seem to be the case of planned use, and I imagine that most users will be a more selective touch with whom to add.
I am personally a fan of the exclusive applications of Google, which add a feeling of flair and exclusivity to the best pixel phones.
In previous years, Google Pixel devices have been considered to perform a “clean” or “stock” version of Android, which, I am sure, seduced minimalist users, but useful specific applications and features like the Besties, screenshots and now the Google Pixel 9 Series reading and its predecessors a certain attraction against competitors such as the iPhone 16 or the Samsung Galaxy S25.
