Rawalpindi:
The new electronic registration transfer system for all types of cars and motorcycles failed just after its deployment on September 1, 2025.
Between September 1 and 20, the new system reversed transfers for 428 vehicles which had been sold and paid in full, legally restoring the property on paper to former owners.
The application, developed as part of the Punjab Information Technology Board, obliges the seller to record the vehicle registration number, the name and address of the new owner and confirm the transfer with biometric verification; The application then requires the input of the engine and chassis numbers and the complete vehicle data. But users have declared “many technical defects” and the application failed to erase and keep the property data, causing automatic reversal. Consequently, buyers now need the cooperation of former owners to repeat the entire transfer process.
The seeds prompted a large number of citizens to stop the procedures for transferring vehicles as part of the engine transfer inspection system, which has enabled the government to lose millions of rupees in daily income, according to the sources of the department.
