The new fund launches binding investment in crypto at the Portuguese residence

A new investment vehicle, the KvarnPortugal Fund, should allow investors a way to expose themselves to the cryptocurrency sector while presenting a potential path to Portuguese residence or citizenship.

The fund is the result of a partnership between Fundbox, a Portuguese fund management company, and Kvarn X, a European investment platform in cryptocurrency.

The fund’s subscription period ended in February 2027, according to its website, and includes management fees of 0.05%, as well as single subscription fees of 2.5%. In addition to these, investors must also cover costs of € 1,250 ($ 1289) Know-Your-Customers (KYC).

The fund has a share of profits of 80/20. For investors who do not follow the Portuguese residence, the minimum investment is € 100,000.

The fund should allocate 80% of its Bitcoin portfolio (BTC) and the remaining 20% to the Coindesk 20 index, which offers a wide range of high capitalization cryptocurrencies.

KvarnPortugal aligns “the financial opportunity with the usefulness of the real world” by integrating the index into a fund facilitating residence by investment, said Alan Campbell, president of Coindesk Indices. The Coindesk 20 index, he added, was “designed to serve as the most liquid reference in the industry”.

To use the fund to win the residence in Portugal thanks to the country’s gold visa program, investors should commit a minimum of € 500,000 and spend at least 35 days in the country over five years. The investment must be made via a Portuguese bank account to qualify, according to the Fund website.
