- The fourth “hybrid” of Canon F / 1.4 Prime Lens joins 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm
- 20 mm versatile wide angle perspective and fast opening
- The price of the list is £ 1,919.99 / $ 2,999 at (US price plus date of start of sale TBC)
Canon continues to develop its range of RF “hybrid” objectives designed for photo and video with its latest addition, the Canon RF 20mm F1.4L VCM.
It is practically identical in size, weight and design with three other Hybrid Numbers F / 1.4 hybrid numbers, the 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm objectives (see all side by side, above), but offers the widest perspective of the quartet.
The 20 mm focal distance is widely used by Astro, the landscape, architecture and interior photographers, and it is also practical for video work in tight spaces and, once again, for scanning views.
The fastest 20 mm target of cannon contains an f / 1.4 to 11 blades which should prove to be particularly practical for low -light work, while its narrow focus skills of only 0.2 m could also provide a shallow decent depth of shots on the ground with dynamic perspectives.
This is an expensive optics, beware – £ 1,919.99 £ 2,999 (American price to follow) in fact the most expensive of the four prime numbers of around 15%. However, it is the only Quick opening bonus of 20 mm for cameras without barrel mirror.
Canon still does not allow third -party brands to make lenses for its full cameras, which means that it could remain the only choice for first -rate lovers for another time.
The most versatile hybrid bonus of cannon?
I had a brief practice with the VCM RF 20 mm F1.4L at the canon UK headquarters before launch and the objective is a familiar show. Its design is practically identical to 24 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm options with the hybrid cannon lens.
The tight -for -weather lens measures 76.5 x 99.3 mm and weighs 18.3 OZ / 519G, which makes it an excellent adjustment with a camera like the EOS R5 Mark II (see below) – a logical camera / Logical objective appearance – and like the other prime numbers, it has a 67 mm wire for lens filters and a holder of a rear gel.
There is an iris ring (opening) with smooth adjustments without ideal click for video, as well as a controlling ring and customizable buttons.
VCM means vocal coil engine – it is the engine which leads to automatic focus, which, according to Canon, is fast, precise and almost silent. I can attest to the efficiency of the autofocus of my short time with him and other objectives in the range.
As a lens of the L series, the 20 mm F1.4 is built for the pros, with an arrangement of complex lenses elements which should offer sharpness and supreme clarity. The objective includes, and I take a breathing … Two aspirial objectives, a super UD lens, two UD lenses and a BR lens, plus ASC, SWC and Super Specters coatings.
In many ways, the VCM RF 20 mm F1.4L is the most convincing lens of the hybrid group, because there is simply no other objective. The RF 10-20 mm F4L is STM is a zoom at 5-star ultra-large angle, but its maximum opening is f / 4.
I can see that the 20mm option is one of the most popular options in the cannon hybrid lens range. It offers a widely wide perspective for video work, in particular those that work in several aspect ratios, and resembles the objective of Astro Ultimate Money-Object photography.
