- Google Drive obtains new gemini features to make the platform smarter
- This includes video and analysis summary tools
- AI chatbots must be reliable with sensitive information to be effective, so pay attention to how you use it
Google Drive has revealed new features fueled by Gemini, but concerns have already been raised on possible security and confidentiality problems.
Previously, capable of reading long documents (and probably missing key information), the cloud storage platform will now benefit from video file summaries, and a complete content analysis, which could be really useful for missed meetings which would otherwise be a lot of time to catch up.
That said, that involves risks, as with all chatbots, there must be a serious level of confidence in the AI model, because the execution of these tasks requires access to potentially sensitive information and files – including the internal secrets of your business.
Confidentiality
The tool is based on the automatically generated legends of Google and will be accessible from the Gemini superposition in Drive – so make sure they are activated if you want to use these features.
This feature is mainly intended for professionals (if you want Gemini to sum up and explain precious family memories, then there are much more important problems in play) – but this decision means that you would give gemini access to information potentially sensitive to businesses – from meeting records of the board of directors or commercial strategy meetings.
In 2024, the Gemini AI platform was accused of scanning Google Drive files without user authorization, which raised serious concerns about the management of user data by Google and confidentiality settings.
This is not all, however, because Google has announced a new feature to help users measure the commitment on videos downloaded on Google Drive, a “highly requested” tool that aims to give users a better preview of their video analysis.
For the moment, there is no administration control available for this feature – and it will be available for all Google Workspace customers, as well as individual google workspace subscribers and personal Google account holders.
