New HBO Max series The murders of the yogurt store Coming on the streaming service on August 3, 2025 to tell the heartbreaking story of a murder case in Austin, Texas, from 1991. At the time, four teenage girls were shot dead in a store called, I cannot believe that it is yogurt in the city, and despite that it is more than 30 years, crimes are still not resolved (although two men have served time for the crimes).
Interviews with family members and victims’ friends, police investigators, lawyers, experts and the press will be broadcast during the four episodes of the new documentary, which will fall separately on a weekly basis on the platform throughout August. This is the first time that we will see the real case of crime exploring publicly in this depth. Indeed, he marks a moment in the time that Austin residents always say that they “cannot believe”.
For me, it is an absolutely devastating watch even before having seen a single episode, from the victims themselves to the questions which still afflict a community three decades later. However, I know that it will be a vital television element, which means that it is most likely on the right track to be the best crimes of the year.
New HBO series Max The Yogurt Shop Murders reopens the unresolved case over 30 years
When you are someone who likes the series of real trials to the test (a bit like me), you can often get caught in the fanfare of all this. When an episode ends, a cliffhanger of auntism is designed so that you can look aside, and nine times out of ten, it is a successful modification. This means that you can often forget the human element in what you see, which can even lead to the creation of documentaries for bad reasons. All this, however, is something The murders of the yogurt store immediately avoids.
The death of Amy Ayers, 13, Eliza Thomas, 17, Jennifer Harbison, 17, and Jennifer’s sister, 15, Sarah, are obviously such a shock for Austin residents – you would have a stone heart not to be overwhelmed by the brutality of their sorrow. At the time of the incident, Jennifer and Eliza were just trying to switch to a quarter of work at work, the two young girls were waiting for a lift at home at the front of the shop after closing. An hour earlier, a man was allowed to use the toilets at the back of the shop, with her alleged that the rear door was blocked in the process.
When the first stakeholders arrived on the site about an hour after closing, they found the four victims each with a ball injury to the head. The fact that there was so much organization and control in the process suggested to the officials that the suspect was an adult, with Robert Springsteen, Michael Scott, Maurice Pierce and Forrest Welborn all suspected of being involved. Scott and Springsteen were released from prison in 2009 after their convictions, with the conviction of Springsteen initially overthrown in 2006.
All this should be covered in many more details in The murders of the yogurt storeBut it doesn’t matter where you are looking in global history, there is a huge feeling of sorrow and mourning. For many viewers, the new HBO Max show will be the first time they have heard families and friends affected, or perhaps even heard of the case.
In his heart, this is exactly why the real crime shows should be created – by giving a voice to those who no longer have it while bringing a broader feeling of consciousness. It’s strange to say, but I can’t wait to find out more about people than people remembered rather than crime, even if I will be moved to tears in the process.
