- Wiim announces 3 new streaming audio products
- Wiim Sound is hi-res wi-fi and bluetooth speaker
- Wiim Sub Pro Subwoofer and AMP Ultra Amp also unveiled
WiiM has just announced that it has its first speakers. The company previously published a range of well-received musical streaming devices and amplifiers, and has teamed up with Audio Pro on WiiM compatible versions of this company’s speakers, but these are its first self-fabricated speakers.
It has a wireless speaker called WiiM Sound, and a subwoofer called WiiM Sub Pro – plus a new powerful streaming amp called WiiM AMP Ultra.
WiiM sound looks very much like a competitor of the Sonos 100 era, and has a similar speaker configuration, packing two tweeters and a four-inch woofer-and promising 100 W in total of the speaker power.
It is not really a surprise – since the launch of Sonos’ disastrous application last year, Wiim took advantage of the situation and started as the apparent heir for people who want multiple streaming and no longer trust Sonos.
But it was difficult to do when Wiim did only amplifiers and complementary modules – the simplicity of having a speaker that manages everything is the key to the popularity of Sonos. It could be the last step.
WiiM sound is a very similar size to the Sonos 100 to 5.7×5.7×7.5 inches era (146x146x193 mm), and has tactile controls on the top for the game / pause and leap of tracks, again like an ERA 100 of Sonos or most of the best wireless speakers.
But it has a pleasant design feature that Sonos does not have: a cool circular touch screen at the front, which can display illustrations, show what is happening in the queue, display the counters seen retro and can control the reading.
There is a correction of the integrated sound room and a high resolution audio streaming support up to 24 bits / 192 kHz.
The WIIM application provides multi-panel support and you use it to broadcast audio to sound from more than 20 different music services, including Qobuz, Amazon, Tidal and Spotify. You can also broadcast from other applications using Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect or DLNA.
You may notice a missing name and function in what I have said so far: Apple Music and Airplay 2. It is essentially the only wireless speaker that has not integrated AirPlay 2, and Apple Music is not supported in the WiiM Home application.
It will be a real blow for many people who use apple ecosystem and put Wiim to a major drawback on Sonos for them. However, there is a Bluetooth support here to diffuse just about anything.
You have the possibility of associating two WiIM sound speakers in a stereo configuration, or it can even work as part of a 5.1 wireless channel speaker system, if you use the HDMI connection of an AMP WIIM. I will be interested in knowing more in the future.
You might see Wiim qualify as an intelligent speaker, but I would not classify it in this way – it can be controlled by Alexa or Google Assistant, but it does not have these integrated services with microphones. You should use another device to trigger them, as an echo point.
The other obvious missing functionality here is a line – there is no mention of this in WiiM information. A good feature of the current Sonos speakers is that you can connect one of the best decks directly on them and obtain instant multi-pieces for your vinyl. But you will need one of the other complementary WiiM streaming modules for this.
However, there is another catch to get excited about this apart from the lack of Apple support: the price or its absence. We do not know what it will be until its release is closer, which would be in the “third quarter of 2025” – so somewhere between July and September. I suspect that it will cost more than the Sonos 100 era given the addition of the touch screen, but we will know it later.
Suffer
The Wiim Sub Pro is a subwoofer with 250 W of class D amplification, and can work wireless with WiiM products, or wired to everything under a sub -orration via RCA.
There is an eight-inch pilot, and it is a submarine quite compact at 15.7×11.8×12.7 inches, but will still not be so easy to hide.
Because it is designed to associate itself with essentially all the speakers you want, whether or not, there are detailed adjustments for the cross adjustment in the WiiM application, as well as the equalization options and the correction of the part.
Again, there is no price, but again, it is aligned for a version of the Q3.
Amplification
Wiim has also announced a new, but compact streaming amplifier, called WiiM AMP Ultra. It is capable of 200 W of power per channel at 4 ohms, or 100 W per channel at 8 ohms. He has links for four speakers, which makes him pleasant and flexible.
Regarding entries, you have all the WiiM streaming powers, including all the main music streaming services and casting options – again, with the exception of Apple services. High resolution streaming is supported up to 24 bits / 192 kHz, but the SABER ESS9039Q2M DAC inside is capable of decoding up to 32 bits / 384KHz.
There are USB and Ethernet ports for these better quality files, and there is an RCA input, as well as an HDMI Arc port to use it for Home Theater Sound.
There is also a touch screen on the front for beautiful illustrations and a direct reading control, plus a volume dial, as you expect all powerful amplifier.
And again, there is no price yet, and the release is promised in the third quarter.
