- The iPhone SE 4 would be an Apple 5g Apple modem
- It is apparently not as fast as the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon modem
- The handset should be officially launched tomorrow
We expect Apple to reveal the iPhone SE 4 tomorrow, and although many handset specifications are matching the iPhone 16 launched in September, it seems that there is an exception: 5G Modem.
According to the South Korean Donga (via GSMARENA), the new 5G modem designed by Apple inside the iPhone SE 4 will miss mmwave support, and will not be completely up to the performance levels of the modem Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 installed inside the four iPhone 16 handsets.
It remains to be seen exactly how different the download and download speeds will be different between the handsets. The drop in performance may not be visible at all for users most of the time, given the limits of the 5G infrastructure, but it is worth noting the potential gap while Apple seeks to obtain more of its own tokens inside its iPhones.
The rumors of an internal Apple modem for the iPhone SE 4 have been swirling for months, with improved efficiency (and a battery life), which would be one of the main advantages of the realization. A source indicates that these Apple modems, manufactured by its TSMC partner, will be fully up to date with Qualcomm equivalents by 2027.
Call for specifications
It seems that Apple is fully engaged in the new 5G modem, which should also appear in at least some of the iPhone 17 handsets later this year. As with mobile processors, it gives Apple more control over circuits and engineering inside its phones.
Although the modem is not entirely at the speed of the cheaper variant, and it will of course come to execute the same iOS 18 software.
The great reason for performance parity is probably an Apple intelligence. Apple will want to make sure that its new handset is able to execute all the latest AI tools, and a quick chipset and a lot of RAM will ensure it. The iPhone SE 3, which was launched in 2022, came with an A15 chipset and only 4 GB of RAM.
It is likely that we will also have a lot of modifications outside the iPhone SE 4 – it apparently abandons the contact identifier and the home button for a more modern look, although it can get a notch than a dynamic island.
