He followed a campaign last year which reached hundreds of thousands of young children under the age of 10. The polio virus has recently been detected in wastewater samples in Gaza, indicating that traffic is underway, thus putting lives in danger.

The campaign is led by the Palestinian Ministry of Health and implemented with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Palestinian refugee agency ‘UNRWA and other partners.

Commissioner General of UNRWA, Philippe Lazzarini, wrote in an article on the X social media platform that 1,700 team members participate in the agency’s health and mobile points.

In addition, the director general of WHO Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that “the teams are on the ground to provide support to ensure a quality campaign”.

UNRWA health teams constitute a third of the response, including 555 out of the total of 1,660 teams involved.

They will publish vaccinations in 10 of its health centers: one in Rafah, three each in Khan Younis and in the region of the environment, and one in the city of Gaza to the north. About 60 mobile medical points from UNRWA will also perform vaccinations.
