- Qualcomm unveils Dragonwing Q-6690 with the need for RFID elimination aboard external modules

Qualcomm has announced a new Enterprise mobile processor that integrates RFID directly into the chip, which no other mobile processor previously offered.
The Dragonwing Q-6690 brings together RFID with 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 support and integrated ultra-lineman.
The processor has been designed to be used in devices in retail, logistics and industrial, because Qualcomm says it can take care of robust pocket computers, outlet systems, kiosks and other commercial shape factors.
Configurable software packs
By directly integrating RFID, the processor removes the need for separate RFID readers modules, which leads to thinner devices.
“The Dragonwing Q-6690 combines RFID, AI and new generation wireless capacities integrated in a single scalable platform, designed to accelerate innovation in industries, including retail, logistics and manufacturing,” said Art Miller, vice-president and retail manager at Qualcomm.
“We are particularly delighted to work with retailers today who need platforms who are not only powerful and connected, but also adaptable to the evolution of expectations of customers, kiosks and more intelligent hands -to -hand computers to real -time inventory analyzes and contactless experiences.”
Qualcomm considers the new platform as a tool for contactless applications such as access control, asset monitoring, product authentication and real-time stock management.
The platform offers configurable software packs that will allow manufacturers to personalize the computing power, multimedia support, camera capacities and peripheral options for specific devices.
These packs will be upgraded in the air, which removes the need to rethink the equipment, which should help reduce certification requests, as well as to accelerate product launches and extend the life cycles of the devices.
For retailers, the new chip could be used for product monitoring and storage operations, while for industrial and logistical parameters, integration could accelerate and simplify the processes based on RFID digitization.
A number of apparatus manufacturers, including Zebra, Honeywell, Urovo, HMD Secure and Cipherlab, say they plan to release products powered by the processor, with a commercial availability expected in the coming months.
