Could the Pro AirPods equipped with the camera arrive earlier than expected? A reliable industry expert says they will be here in 2026, not in 2027, as previously planned – and this means that the AirPods Pro 3 will arrive later than expected, given the recent apparent index of their existence in the Apple code.
The industry expert in question is Ming-Chi Kuo, who has an enviable experience of precise apple predictions. And according to Kuo, Airpod cameras will be infrared and they will go into production somewhere in 2026.
As Kuo has published on X, it means that Iirpods “may not see significant updates before 2026”. And if you are waiting for a new model of AirPods Max, you will have to wait even longer.
What do we know about the next AirPods Pro and Airpods Max?
Barely two days ago, the Apple extended Rumorverse was very enthusiastic about AirPods Pro 3: One X User published an Apple Code screenshot in “A recent software version of Apple” which apparently changed its text compared to “Airpods Pro 2nd Generation” in “Airpod Pro 2 or later”.
Some reports suggest that this meant that the launch of Airpod Pro 3 was imminent, perhaps during the WWDC next month – thought it was always unlikely. Fresh heads have stressed that it could simply mean a code to the test of the future. And if Kuo’s predictions are correct, it seems to be what is happening here.
Kuo also says that a significant overhaul of the AirPods Max is coming, probably in 2027. The details are summary at the moment, but Kuo said that a “lighter version” was planned for mass production in 2027; The current model weighs a fairly heavy 386g / 13.6 Oz compared to 250 g / 8.96 OZ for the newly outstone Sony Wh-1000XM6.
This is not a big problem for sounds based on sofas, but my AirPods Max are definitely starting to feel heavy when I wear them outside.
It will be a hell of waiting when this real successor of AirPods Max arrives – the originals launched in December 2020.
