On Friday, the NFL published a declaration on a recent tribute to Charlie Kirk before his last match, and said that the teams should make their own decisions on the opportunity to follow this Sunday.
Thursday evening’s match between Green Bay Packers and Washington Commanders presented a moment of silence in honor of Kirk before kick -off.
“The time of last night was the decision of the League. It is clubs for this Sunday games,” said the League declaration, according to several reports.

The declaration also addressed the context of the tribute, comparing it to other moments of silence after the tragedies.
“There were times after school fire or an attack on a worship such as the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh in 2018. There were also moments after major international incidents such as Hamas Attack on Israel in October 2023 and weather incidents such as the main obstacles and fires,” said the declaration.

Elsewhere in American sports, New York Yankees and Chicago Cubs each had a moment of silence before recent games to honor Kirk after the assassination on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the MLB asked all the teams to keep at least all the American flags halfway throughout the weekend in honor of Kirk.
“MLB asked all clubs to follow the management of the presidential proclamation of the White House and to steal flags at half of the staff in their ball areas,” MLB spokesperson for PK Press Club Digital told.
The NHL, the NBA and the WNBA made no official declaration on the assassination of Kirk. PK Press Club Digital contacted the three leagues to ask him if they would, but did not receive an answer.
