The Night Agent Season 3 has already ended, which is great news for fans of the action-packed Netflix series.
Understanding what it means to lead a basketball team was at the heart of Season 1, and it looks like The Night Agent season 2 is set to pick up the torch, no doubt with increasing drama for Isla as she struggles not only with her professional life, but her personal life as well.
Here’s everything we know so far The Night Agent season 3 release date, confirmed cast, plot rumors, news and more.
The Night Agent season 3: is there a release date?
New York, Washington, DC, Türkiye, Mexico, Dominican Republic… We’ve touched them all. Season 3 of #TheNightAgent has officially wrapped production. @netflix @SPTVJuly 14, 2025
Regarding The Night Agent Season 3 release date is near, we don’t have one yet. But as of July 14, we know that the cast and crew have officially wrapped production, which gives us a little idea of when we can expect it.
Thanks to an X/Twitter post from the showrunner, Shawn Ryan also revealed that after Tudum confirmed that filming in Istanbul and New York had taken place, there would actually be a lot more locations visited in season 3, and everything has already been filmed. Add Washington DC, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic to the list of locations.
If I had to make a prediction on the release date, given that season 2 began filming in February 2024, ended in June 2024, and released in January 2025. I think we could see The Night Agent season 3 from early 2026, maybe even in January, if we’re lucky.
No official announcement yet, but I’ll be sure to update here as soon as I know about it.
The Night Agent season 3: has a trailer been released?
There is no The Night Agent season 3 trailer, but if the expected release date is tied to the similar timeline of the season 2 release, it could well be December 2025.
Additionally, a small teaser for Season 2 was released in November ahead of Season 2’s January release date. We could therefore have a preview of season 3 as early as November…
The Night Agent season 3: casting confirmed
Gabriel Basso will reprise his role as Peter Sutherland alongside a few returning characters and new characters who will take their place in The Night Agent season 3:
- Gabriel Basso as Peter Sutherland
- Fola Evans-Akingbola as Chelsea Arrington
- Ward Horton as Governor Richard Hagan
- Albert Jones as Aiden Mosley
- David Lyons as to be confirmed
- Jennifer Morrison as to be confirmed
- Stephen Moyer as TBC
- Genesis Rodriguez as to be confirmed
- Callum Vinson as TBC
- Suraj Sharma as TBC
You will notice one major name missing in The Night Agent Season 3 cast list and it’s Rose Larkin, played by Luciane Buchanan. Aside from Peter, Rose was the only returning character in season 2, but she won’t be returning…at least for now.
And showrunner Shawn Ryan also revealed to Deadline that: “We always envisioned the show telling a new story each season with a rotating cast, and the story we told for Season 3, much to our regret, did not have a satisfying place for Rose.”
But you’ll also notice some new names joining the cast, as Variety reports. Six, in fact, which shouldn’t be that surprising to hear given Ryan’s vision for a rotating cast.
Although no official details have been revealed about their characters, Deadline reported, “I’ve heard that Lyons will play a former spy drawn to retirement, Morrison will play the First Lady, Moyer will play a big-time hitman, and Rodriguez will play a journalist.”
Despite wanting a different cast, I would still expect the return of Amanda Warren (Catherine Weaver) and Louis Herthum (Jacob Monroe) given how Season 2 ended. More on that below.
The Night Agent season 3: story synopsis and rumors
Full spoilers for The Night Agent seasons 1 and 2 to follow.
The Night Agent season 2 focused on Peter’s very first mission as an official night agent, which led him down a dangerous rabbit hole to stop a devastating chemical weapons attack, led by aggressive dictator Viktor Bala.
However, with Viktor in prison, the deadly plan falls to his family, namely his son Tomás and nephew Markus. Although Markus ultimately steered the entire mission down an even more catastrophic path. Fortunately, Peter manages to execute a plan that stops Bala’s men in their tracks, but not without sacrifice.
Rose tracks Peter down while he is in hiding and helps him use Noor, an Iranian UN aide, to gather inside information in exchange for his family’s safety (which didn’t go as planned).
But, in order to discover the location of the deadly chemical weapons and, at the same time, free the kidnapped Rose, Peter had to steal a document from the UN building in exchange for this information.
And the man trading information was Jacob Monroe, a wealthy and very influential businessman who was trading highly classified information for his own gain and to influence the presidential election.
So, despite Ryan’s vision for a new story for each season, it seems like Jacob’s story isn’t over yet. Especially since Catherine told Peter to do Jacob’s dirty work for her, after he confessed everything that happened to complete the Night Action mission.
And it looks like the fallout from Season 2 will play a big role in what comes next. Speaking to Deadline, Ryan said: “We’re still in the process of preparing for Season 3, so I’m reluctant to talk about it too specifically. But what I will say is that Peter, because he’s a good, honest person at the end of Season 2, he realizes that, although he achieved the desired outcome of saving Rose and stopping the attack on the UN, the actions he took to achieve that had unintended consequences that could perhaps be even more important than the things he stopped. As part of Season 3, he’s trying to emotionally and logistically deal with the unintended consequences of his actions in Season 2.”
As for what happens to Peter after season 3, when speaking to Variety Basso might not stick around: “I’m probably going to take a break. I think Peter is making decisions that have to happen. And it would be a disservice to the audience if every season he was doing well.”
But he’s definitely not done yet. What we also know about season 3 is that it was filmed in multiple locations, even more than season 2, and that it lasts The Night Agent across the world for the next Night Action mission. I have no doubt it will be full of deception, action and nail-biting moments, although I’m not sure I could handle another Javad.
Will there be more seasons of The Night Agent?
There is no official word on other seasons of The Night Agent. But, speaking to Variety, Ryan considered the possibility of The Night Agent continues, even if Peter Sutherland doesn’t put it forward: “How long does Gabriel want to do the show? The show is called ‘The Night Agent.’ It’s not called ‘The Gabriel Basso show.“So there may come a point where he decides he wants to do something else, and there’s another night shift officer.”
And when Variety asked Basso if we were talking 5 or 10 years, he added: “It will be sooner than that,” he said. “The monopoly of youth is energy, and I think I have to convert it into service to be legitimate as a person.” This is something you’ve definitely never heard Ethan Hunt say, but maybe Basso still has a season or two left in the tank.
Otherwise, perhaps the future of The Night Agent could trade Basso for an entirely new character. Regardless, it will be interesting to see how all of this shapes the upcoming Season 3.
