- Oppo announced the new Reno 13 series of mid -range handsets
- The Reno 13 Pro sports a 3.5x telephoto lens and resistance to water and dust IP68 / IP69
- Oppo seems to suggest a combination of these new features with a new underwater photography mode
Like our Details Oppo Reno 12 Pro Review, a telephoto is a rare and precious addition for a mid -range handset. The Oppo Reno 13 Pro is equipped with a 3.5x telephoto lens, almost doubling the range of optical zoom of its predecessor, the Oppo Reno 12 Pro.
As far as we know, the 3.5x Vivaneau of the Reno 13 Pro gives the OPPO the largest level of OPPO more optical zoom than any other phone of its price.
Telephotic telephoto cameras are more and more common on mid -range handsets: we recently saw the launch of the Nothing Phone 3A and Phone 3A Pro, which respectively carries 2x and 3x telephoto camera cameras.
The 50 MP 3.5X telephoto lens camera is joined by a 50 MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-large camera, in an arrangement following the history of the taking of Oppo-let’s call it inspiration – from a certain manufacturer of phones based in Cupertino.
Aside from the design line, the Oppo Reno 13 Pro is also assessed at IP69, and Oppo says that the phone is resistant to the submergation in cool water as well as heated water jets – it is as waterproof as a phone can get it now.
With these two features – an improved camera system and the best possible water resistance – Oppo has done the natural thing and has designed a way to get the most out of the two at the same time. The Reno 13 Pro comes with a new underwater camera mode that uses the volume rocker to operate the camera when submerged.
This new mode allows users to take photos with the volume -up button, and start and stop the video with the volume button, what I have to admit is a reasonably intuitive control scheme – even if the idea of jumping in the pool, the phone in hand, always makes me freak out a bit.
We have already seen phones with IP69 water resistance, but it is very rare that a phone manufacturer actively encourages its users to dive with their device – not to mention a photo shoot.
The Oppo Reno 13 Pro and its two brothers and sisters The Oppo Reno 13 and Reno 13F, have not yet received a date of release or prices – we will update this article when the details are confirmed.
