The Chand Nagar Cultural Center is proud to announce the very first Pakistani adaptation of a winning stage of the Pulitzer Prize, “Doubt: a parabe”, which is played on July 26 and 27 at Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Auditorium in Islamabad.
This production is the Urdou translation of John Patrick Shanley’s play, translated by the director and educator of Imran Iftikhar and Adil Yousaf. Iftikhar expressed his excitement and his gratitude, for having obtained permission to adapt and stage this masterpiece. “I share this news with immense pride and gratitude that I officially obtained the authorization of John Patrick Shanley-the award-winning scriptwriter at the Prix Pulitzer Prize-to translate, adapt and stage his masterpiece of the masterpiece, doubt: a parable, for the public of Islamabad in Urdu”, he shared.
The play, “Doubt: a parabe”, was written by the American playwright John Patrick Shanley in 2004. It was adapted to a mystery thriller film entitled “Doubt” in 2008, with the famous Hollywood actress, Meryl Streep. The film received critical praise and presented the history and the powerful themes of the play.
“Dubbing: a parable” explores the complexities of human nature, plunging into the themes of faith, doubt, power and morality. Located in a small town in Punjab, the room raises questions about the truth, silence and gray areas between the two. With its suspense intrigue and its impactful characters, this production promises to be a stimulating experience for the public.
Imran Iftikhar has also added: “This is not only an important step for me as a director and translator, but a historic moment for the Pakistani theater. To my knowledge, it is the first time that a winning piece of the Pulitzer Prize has been officially produced in Pakistan. He hopes that” this production will open new doors for international theater in Pakistan and will give critical conversations, truth”.
Chand Nagar Cultural Center devotes herself to telling daring, stimulating and relevant stories through the theater and the arts in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The play is translated into Ourdou by Adil Yousaf, produced by Imran Iftikhar and presents a distribution of young theater actors of twin cities. “Dubbing: a parable” is brought back to life by Chand Nagar Cultural Center, in order to create a platform for a significant narration and a cultural exchange.
