The parliamentary secretary brought clarifications concerning internet speed in the country during the session of the National Assembly.
The session, chaired by vice-president Ghumam Mustafa, discussed the question of slow internet speed during the time of questions.
Sabin Ghori, parliamentary secretary, informed that the internet speed would improve this year’s mid-milieu, and 5G would also be launched by mid-2025.
She explained that there are several reasons at slow internet speed.
The member of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Agha Rafiullah, said that the videos are not downloaded and that the Internet is extremely slow. Another member, Shagufta Jumani, pointed out that Bilawal Bhutto rightly said that there was fish that only eats Pakistan cable.
In response, parliamentary secretary Sabin Ghori humor said: “There are fish that cut the internet cable, but we don’t know what fish it is.”
Earlier, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Information Technologies asked the rapid finalization of its agreement with Starlink, the parliamentary secretary confirming that the service will be available in the country by June 2025.
The committee, chaired by Aminul Haq, discussed various key problems, including the PSDF of the Ministry of Information Technologies (TI) for the year 2024-25 and other important projects.
HAQ has asked officials to speed up the license process for Starlink, the satellite internet service provider belonging to Elon Musk, who has had discussions with Pakistan for almost two years.
The Starlink license process had previously blocked due to the absence of a regulatory authority, as noted by Barrister Gohar, a member of the committee. The Pakistani authorities soon aim to fill out the necessary documents, with the potential for Starlink to become operational by mid-201.
There is an amonce, Sharmila Farooqi, PPP legislative, expressed his frustration at a meeting of the National Committee on the Permanence of the Assembly on Information Technologies, accusing the Government of not attacking the disturbances persistent on the internet.
The meeting, chaired by the Federal Minister of Computer Science Syed Aminul Haque, focused on slow internet issues. Farooqi criticized the Minister of the State for IT Sheza Fatima Khawaja for her answers, questioning the government’s allegations to improve Internet services.
“Whenever PTI announces a demonstration, the Internet suddenly falls. Does the government call the electronic comicies, the public and the American liars? Farooqi asked, highlighting the financial losses suffered by her husband’s electronic commerce activities due to the issue.
