- A metal reference for the M4 MacBook Air has just disclosed
- It conforms to the M4 chip of the iPad Pro, which makes a lot of sense
- The laptop should be launched in the coming weeks
The M4 MacBook Air should be launched imminent, the new chip presented to provide performance and efficiency improvements to one of Apple’s best MacBook. And it seems that we will not even have to wait for its release to discover its performance.
This is because a reference has just disclosed on the Geekbench website. The results of the tests were published on February 19 and show a device running MacOS 15.2 and carrying a M4 chip with ten cores and 24 GB of memory.
In terms of performance, the M4 chip of this MacBook obtained 54,806 in the graphic metal reference. Compare this to the 13 -inch iPad Pro with an M4 chip, which marked a very similar 54,064. Since the two devices are known for their slimming and their cooling without fan, the thin margins between them make sense.
Tagged as “Mac16,12”, the mysterious MacBook is considered to be Apple’s next M4 MacBook Air because it does not correspond to any existing MAC code name. However, he aligned himself with a Mac identifier that Apple himself has accidentally disclosed – which was attributed to a M4 MacBook Air.
A credible reference
It is possible that this reference has been faked to give the appearance of belonging to a piece of unwanted Apple equipment. This seems unlikely, however, because it is largely in line with what we expect from the M4 chip.
We have mentioned the iPad Pro score above as a comparison point, but we can also see how this disclosed reference is against the M4 MacBook Pro. On Geekbench, a metal test sample marked 57,596, an improved result compared to the MacBook Air which should not be a surprise since the MacBook Pro has an active cooling which can help increase its performance.
So, all things indicate that this leak is a credible result, perhaps authentic for the next M4 MacBook Air.
Aside from the new M4 chip, the next MacBook Air could get an improved LCD screen (unfortunately, an OLED panel is still in a few years), better webcam and stronger support to connect several monitors.
The spring is expected to be widely planned (from June), the Bloomberg journalist, Mark Gurman, saying that he will be on sale “by March at the latest”.
