- The dispersed slip hunters claim the responsibility of the recent cyber attack on Jaguar Land Rover
- The group shared screenshots allegedly taken from the interior of the JLR computer network
- An investigation is underway
Dispmed Lapsus $ Hunters – A piracy collective apparently made from the merger of three notorious cybercrime groups claimed the responsibility of the recent cyber attack on Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
The luxury car manufacturer declared to suffer from a cyber attack which “seriously disrupted” its retail production and sale activities, while two factories have been temporarily closed, and the employees returned to their homes, while the JLR computer team fought with the attackers and sought to regain control of the compromised terminals.
The group has now been spotted apparently boast of Telegram’s attack, sharing screenshots apparently taken from JLR’s computer infrastructure. They also seem to make jokes on the breach, asking “where is my new car, Land Rover?” and similar.
Adolescents unite their strengths
The pirates shared some screenshots as proof of their claims, which seem to display internal instructions to help out a car load problem, as well as internal computer newspapers.
However, the crooks have not confirmed if they have really stolen files or have managed to deploy malware, and cybercriminals often want to exaggerate their claims.
Jaguar Land Rover would have studied the assertions.
The dispersed slip hunters are a patchwork of three groups – scattered spider, $ and shinyhuters.
Each of them is infamous in its own right, being responsible for some of the most important and most disturbing ransomware attacks, data violations and malware deployments. However, it seems that they have united their forces recently, because it is now another in a series of attacks, after Allianz Life, M&S and others.
We know very little about the disbelievers. Some researchers think they are adolescents, probably living in the United States or the United Kingdom. It was also said that they were trying to extort JLR for money, but these reports are not confirmed at the moment.
