The pursuit of Washington commanders on a playground in the former RFK stadium site in DC took a step in front on Friday while President Donald Trump put pressure on the organization on his team nickname.
The DC Council approved the bill with a vote of 9-3. But the legislation must be approved a second time by the Council before being sent to the mayor of Washington Muriel Bowser, who helped the commanders to execute the plan earlier this year. The second vote will come on September 17.

Bowser, the owner of the Josh Harris team and the commissioner of the NFL Roger Goodell, announced that he had entered into an agreement with DC officials on the former RFK stadium site in April. The three then joined Trump in the oval office for a celebration after that.
The approved proposal would support a redevelopment project of $ 3.7 billion, with the new stadium, 6,000 dwellings in a retail space and a park. The national capital will also organize an upcoming NFL draft on the National Mall in 2027.

RFK NOW!, An organization that joined the support for the commanders to obtain authorization from the stadium, expressed happiness with the Council for its vote.
“We are happy that the Council listened to the residents of DC and advanced a lot for our city,” said Malcom Fox, executive director of the DC opportunity and organizer of RFK Now!, In a press release. “Barely a few years ago, bringing commanders back to home seemed impossible. With today’s vote, we are on the right track to obtain the biggest private investment in the history of DC. A key was launched in the vote in July when Trump challenged the commanders for refusing to return on behalf of their Redskins.

Trump expressed his dissatisfaction on Thursday with regard to the name when he announced the restoration of the presidential fitness test.
“I don’t even know what the name of their last name is,” said Trump. “They are commanders or something? Is this commanders? Commanders, it’s not a good name.”
Harris argued that the names of the commanders are there to stay.
