- The iOS 26 Beta 4 developer includes the return of a controversial iPhone function
- Notification summaries for information applications are back
- This time, users will have the possibility of activating or deactivating the summary tool
Apple has restored its controversial features to notify Apple’s intelligence notification for news applications in the latest beta iOS 26 version.
The summary tool had been deactivated for all news application notifications earlier this year following an accident where Apple Intelligence summed up BBC news, making the titles incorrectly.
Now, with the release of iOS 26 Developer Beta 4, Apple has reintroduced the option for users to summarize news notifications using AI.
With the imminent iOS 26 beta version, it is expected that this change will also be available for a wider user base, it is a few days.
Unlike the last time we have had the functionality, users are now welcomed with several choices related to Apple Intelligence’s notification summaries after updating iOS 26. You can choose to completely deactivate notification summaries, or to select from several categories such as new and entertainment, communication and social, and all other applications.
Apple initially deleted notification summaries for news applications as part of iOS 18.3 which was launched in January. Now, however, it seems that the company based in Cupertino is happier with the deployment of the functionality, choosing to restore it and give users the choice with a brief warning that “the summary can modify the meaning of the original titles. Check the information”.
It’s back, but I turned it out anyway
I lulled iOS 26 on my iPhone 16 pro Max for more than a month now, and although I am very satisfied with the recent update of the iOS 26 developer 26 BETA 4 in terms of performance improvement compared to BETA 3, I am less satisfied with the return of new notification summaries.
The first thing I did after trying the notification summaries in iOS 18.1 was to deactivate them, and even if I am ready to activate the functionality again for all my notifications this time, I do not count my chickens before they burst.
I hope that Apple has rectified some of the blatant problems with the reliability of notification summaries in the latest beta version of iOS 26, although I fear that the warning can highlight potential problems is only a way to get around any tumult, to keep the functionality as unreliable as before.
As I use more, time will tell us. iOS 26 is still in beta version and there is a lot of time for Apple to rectify any potential hiccups before the official release later this year. Until then, I will give a last chance of notification summaries.
