Karachi:
The Suit Southern Gas Company (SSGC) paid RS11.9 billion to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and various city city companies (TMC) for the Cup and Rehabilitation of the Route from July 2024 to June 2025.
The public gas service was under the fire of political and civic circles to determine the roads for the laying pipelines, however, SSGC sources declared that the company had made a timely disbursements of the costs of reducing compulsory roads.
It was the rest of the rest of the matropolitis and the city to use these funds justified, they said.
According to data, published by the SSGC, the public gas service made the highest payments of 3.55 billion rupees at TMC North Karachi and TMC Nazimabad. TMC Model Colony received the second highest payment of RS 2.10 billion. Other payments included 1 billion rupees at TMC Lyari, 7.3 million rupees at TMC Jinnah and 6.2 million rupees at TMC Malir.
The data also revealed that TMC Saddar and Chen have each received 260 million rupees, while TMC Landhi was paid 210 million rupees. The SSGC paid 490 million rupees per kmc for cutting and catering work. The lowest amount of RS0.227 million was paid to TMC Gulshan.
Despite these massive disbursements totaling more than RS11 billion, the roads through Karachi remain in ruins.
Interestingly, SSGC has never even published a single letter of protest to any TMC for not having restored the roads, and its legal service did not sign a binding agreement before publishing such a huge amount.
Sources also revealed that SSGC had not obtained any official insurance from the TMC that the roads would be rebuilt after the payments.
However, due to the indignation of the public after the recent showers, SSGC has now launched the process of writing protest letters at KMC and the TMC concerned, wondering why the road works were not completed despite the obtaining of the enormous payments.
The initiates of the SSGC expressed their concern, saying: “If the company protests or aggressively takes legal action, it can face complications in the acquisition of road reduction permits in the future from these municipal organizations.”
