Torrential monsoon rains have beaten parts of Punjab in the past 24 hours, which triggers generalized floods, structural damage and fatal accidents. At least 33 people were killed and more than 170 injured, according to a spokesperson for Rescue 1122, the province’s emergency service.
In response, Punjab Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said a “rain emergency” in the province, including in Rawalpindi, where the sirens were sounded and activated emergency measures.

The provincial government has mobilized all the departments concerned, including district administrations, police and rescue 1122, to respond to the crisis.
Boats, ambulances, helicopters and specialized rescue vehicles have been deployed to reach areas affected by floods where road access is impossible.
The most affected cities include Lahore (13 deaths), Faisalabad (8), Pakpattan (4) and Sheikhupura (3).
Unique deaths have been reported to Okara, Nankana Sahib and Sahiwal. Most of the victims were taken in the collapse of the building, the sudden floods and the accidents related to the rain.

Rescue 1122 continues to operate under extreme conditions, with several submerged roads and disturbed communication lines. Field hospitals and medical intervention teams remain on alert.
The Punjab government has ordered public hospitals to remain on hold and set up 24/7 control rooms to manage the response of the floods.
The traffic police were responsible for organizing alternative routes, and the general public is advisable to stay away from the canals, rivers and low zones and to avoid venturing unless necessary.
Lahore alone received 136 mm of rain in three hours, breaking a record old decades. The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has deployed more than 400 pumps to clear the water from the roads.
The emergency intervention teams, including Rescue 1122, clean up debris and restore access to large cities.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department reported alarming total rain, Islamabad receiving 193 mm, Rawalpindi 179 mm and Mandi Bahauddin 167 mm.
Chakwal and Jhelum have also seen intense precipitation, with 142 mm and 81 mm, respectively.

Additional intermittent rains are provided for during the next 12 to 20 hours, with a certain reduction in the expected intensity.
However, thunderstorms and strong winds are still probably in Islamabad, Polyhohar, Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and certain parts of Balutchistan and Central and South Punjab.
