Dallas Wings’s recruit feeling, Paige Bueckers, addressed the comments it made in 2021 on the use of its platform to “celebrate black women” during a podcast interview on Friday.
In an appearance on the “Nilosophy” podcast, Bueckers was asked about her comments at 2021 ESPYS, when she said: “I think we should use this power together to also celebrate black women” while discussing the impact of sports media.
Bueckers answered the question, expressing his gratitude to the media while saying that he “tries to isolate”.

“I just feel … The media is great. It’s their work to make the headlines and bring people to click, to draw,” said Bueckers. “The rivalries are great. It makes people talk about our game. They cover our game and pay attention to your game.
“So, you have to be grateful for them. But a large part is also, they try to isolate yourself. And, for me, it was like, it is so easy to do everything on yourself. The media give you a drink, and will you drink it or are you going to share it with others?”
Bueckers has added that it also aims to give credit to God as well.

“Nobody does anything by themselves and therefore, as to propagate, obviously, my faith is really important for me. So using my platform to glorify God was enormous, and then spreading the light on others. I think it is, as I said, I don’t want to do anything from me,” said Bueckers.
In May, after the Wings made Bueckers the first overall choice of WNBA 2025 draft, Bueckers once again talked about the question of the coverage of black women in the league.
“It’s always a problem, every day,” she said Time magazine. “There is never an equal cover.”

“There is a white privilege every day that I see,” she said about marketing opportunities.
“I have the impression of having worked extremely hard, blessed by God. But I think there are more opportunities for me. I even feel like marketing, people tend to promote whites – white men, white women. I think it should be equal opportunities. I have the impression that there is a privilege to what I do and that all of it is about. business.”
