The reserved judgments must be announced within 90 days, the JC panel offers

The judicial commission’s subcommittee proposed that reserved judgments must be announced within 90 days of the new rules discussed to assess the performance of high court judges.

The meeting of the subcommittee, chaired by judge Jamal Khan Mandokhail, examined the procedures and rules aimed at assessing the efficiency and conduct of high court judges, according to sources.

One of the main proposals discussed has been to link the performance of judges to the timely business elimination daily, including an obligation to decide on the list of causes. They also declared that all members of the subcommittee were responsible for submitting their recommendations in writing for a more in-depth examination.

The chief judge of Pakistan Yahya Afridi had formed two committees, led by judge Mandokhail, to prepare rules of rules for the annual evaluation of the judicial performance of the judges of the High Court, as well as criteria for selecting judges for the constitutional benches.

The 26th constitutional amendment required that the Judicial Commission carry for annual assessments of the performance of the judges of the High Court. If a judge is considered ineffective, the Commission may grant an improvement period.

If the performance of the judge remains unsatisfactory after this period, the committee sends its report to the Supreme Judicial Council. Article 175A (20) also indicates that the Commission can create separate rules to establish effective standards for the evaluation of the yield of high court judges.
