The role of minorities in shaping Pakistan rented in the Senate

The Senate unanimously adopted a resolution on Tuesday, welcoming minorities for their vital role in the development of the country, cultural, social and economic enrichment.

The resolution, moved by Senator Dash Kumar, noted that Quaid-Ezam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, in his historical speech on August 11, 1947, declared unequivocally that all the citizens of Pakistan, regardless of religion, caste or crèche, will enjoy rights, freedoms and protections under the law.

He stressed that this principle remains the cornerstone of the country’s policy towards minorities, adding that the Constitution consecrates the fundamental rights of minorities, ensuring their freedom of religion, equality before law and protection against discrimination.

The resolution stressed that Pakistan is a signatory of international alliances, in particular the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the International Alliance on Civil and Political Rights (PICPR), which affirm the rights of minorities.

He also stressed that the promotion of interconfessional harmony, social cohesion and inclusiveness is essential to national unity and prosperity.

On the occasion of the National Day of Minorities, the resolution recognized the invaluable contributions of minorities to the development, progress and unity of the nation. He paid a deep tribute to the minorities of Pakistan for their patriotism, their sacrifices and their exemplary contributions unwavering the growth of the country.

The resolution has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Senate to protect the constitutional, legal and human rights of all minorities, guaranteeing their dignity, their security and their equal status as citizens of the State.

He appreciated and congratulated the president of the Senate for the visionary initiative to establish the caucus of minorities in the Senate of Pakistan. This joint parliamentary forum, with the representation of the National Assembly and the Senate, aims to respond collectively to concerns and to promote the rights of minorities.
