Let’s start with the evidence: the Samsung Galaxy S25 edge is an impressive phone. I held its 5.8 mm chassis in my hand and I was amazed at its FILE Titanium frame, but if I am honest, its attraction was somewhat attenuated for me by what I thought at the beginning was a blatant deficit: the absence of a real telephoto.
Now, however, after spending a little time with the new Android handset and assessed its unusual whole of functionalities, I see things a little differently, and I think that consumers will do it too.
First of all, here is what you get in terms of camera in the Samsung Galaxy S25 edge:
At the front is a 12 Mp -wide selfie selfie camera which, somewhat surprisingly, has a 5 -degree field of vision than any other Galaxy S25 phone (85 degrees as opposed to 80 degrees FOV). Do you have more friends who want to bring together and eye your ultra-peaual phone? Now you can put them all in the context.

It is the network of rear cameras where things become interesting. First of all, you have the 12MP ultrawid camera (120 FOV). This objective will adapt to dramatic shots with wide angle and macotography and is, as I see, table issues for any good flagship camera system.
The remaining objective is the most impressive of the S25 Edge. It is essentially the same sensor of 200 MP that you find on $ 1,299.99 / £ 1,1 249 / $ 2,149 Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Farging this lens in a phone that shares many of its specifications with the Galaxy S25 more basis is unexpected and quite a success if you consider that it is a 5.8 mm and 163 gram smartphone.
Not surprised then relieved
Even before seeing the S25 Edge in person and well before I learned the full sheet, I assumed that the phone would not include a decent telephoto lens. After all, there is surely not enough space for a pericope, which needs a prism, a right angle and sufficient space to accommodate optical zoom technology. However, when I learned that the Galaxy S25 EDGE would start at $ 1,099.99 / £ 1,099 / $ 1,849 in without any kind of telephoto lens, I was disappointed.
The 200MP sensor changed my perspective, not only because it is an excellent camera that you will use to take high quality tank photos (usually in the 12MP or 50MP range), but because of what you can do with this sensor to create a zoom effect.
“2x quality of the optical zoom” is the way Samsung describes what you will get with the S25 edge. What it means is that in 2x zoom mode, the phone draws in complete 200 Mp of the main camera sensor, then it occurs in the best pixels for a “zoom”. The good thing about this is that Samsung does not handle pixels as it does with 10x digital zoom. These are all pure artisanal pixels that will essentially give the impression that you were twice as close to your subject.
Zoom versus useful compromise
I’m not going to lie. I will always prefer more optical zoom. I loved the old 10x optics in the ultra galaxy S23 even if it was only 10 MP and that I count strongly on the 5x optical zoom lens on the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It should also be noted that Apple makes a similar piece of sensor cropping for the 2x zoom range on its professional cameras.
To watch
What the 6.7 -inch Samsung Galaxy S25 EDGE offers, however, is a good compromise. The phone is not only a stretched and crushed Galaxy S25. It is a hybrid that merges a beautiful thin design with the best sensor in the S25 range, only one shared by the most expensive Ultra.
So, even if the zoom bigger, I think that the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge may have found an ideal point of photography. Of course, I will be sure when we can test the phone.
