- Samsung would have to finalize an agreement with perplexity
- The agreement could be announced this year and see Perplexity replace the Gemini as the default AI assistant of the Galaxy S26
- What it would mean for Gemini on Samsung phones is not clear
Currently, Google Gemini is the AI Standard assistant on Android phones, and Samsung in particular has strongly incorporated Gemini into its devices. But this partnership may not last much longer.
According to a remuneration report on Bloomberg (via the Android police), Samsung is about to finalize an agreement with perplexity, which would see the assistant of the latter integrated into the Samsung phones.
It would seem that the agreement could be announced later this year, but it seems that perplexity will not appear on the best Samsung phones until the beginning of 2026, with Samsung apparently aimed at sending it as an assistant Ai by default of the Samsung Galaxy S26 series.
Deep integration
The agreement would see Samsung preinstall the Perplexity application on these phones, as well as the integration of its features in Samsung Internet. Apparently, there are even discussions to incorporate perplexity technology into the Samsung Bixby assistant, although it seems that there is less certainty than it will end up being part of the agreement.
Beyond that, Samsung and Perplexity have apparently discussed the construction of operating systems powered by AI with AI agents “which can exploit the features of perplexity and a range of other AI” assistants “. However, it sounds further if it happens.
What this agreement would mean for Samsung’s partnership with Google is not clear. If the perplexity is shipped as the default option of the Samsung Galaxy S26 series – and probably other Samsung phones – then at least, the Gemini would be a little sidelined.
But that does not necessarily mean that the features of the Gemini that we have seen on the Samsung Galaxy S25 series will be absent; You might rather have the choice of several AI services.
If Samsung is really about to announce this partnership this year, we should have a clearer idea for too long.
