- Samsung showed off the Galaxy tri-fold at a tech event in South Korea
- The phone was shown folded and unfolded
- But it was behind glass, so no one could interact with it.
It looks like Samsung might soon fully unveil its first tri-fold phone (which might be called the Samsung Galaxy TriFold), as the company has taken a step in that direction by showing off the device.
This is our first official look at the Samsung Galaxy tri-fold, with the company – as reported by Chosun (via NotebookCheck) – placing the phone in a glass display case at a recent “K-Tech Showcase” in South Korea.
Being in a display case, it wasn’t possible for anyone to interact with the handset, but it was photographed both folded and unfolded, so we now have a pretty clear idea of how it looks.
According to Chosun, the Samsung Galaxy triple has a cover screen of around 6.5 inches and extends to around 10 inches when unfolded, which would truly make it a phone and tablet all in one.
That’s not the only sighting we’ve had of it either, as in addition to these photos, leaker @UniverseIce also shared what appears to be an official render of the phone, allowing us a closer look at its screens.
Probably coming soon
The fact that Samsung is showing it off and the possible existence of official renders both indicate an imminent reveal. So there is a good chance that we will know more about the Galaxy triple on October 31 or November 1, as has already been said.
However, if you were hoping to buy it, you might be out of luck, as we also heard recently that it will likely only be sold in a few Asian countries.
Still, it’s an exciting handset. It’s one of the first tri-fold phones (although Huawei already has one in the form of the Mate XT), and it’s the first time Samsung has experimented with a new form factor in some time.
It will be interesting to see if there’s much appetite, but if it works well we wouldn’t be surprised if this gets annual refreshes, with the next one possibly being more widely available.
