- A code channel in Samsung Beta Software mentions the code name Galaxy Z Trifold
- He also mentions the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset
- Code or no code, we would be surprised if this chipset was not used
Samsung’s first tripolar phone is likely to land soon, with recent leaks suggesting that it could be launched in October with the name of Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold, and now we have a good idea of what the chipset could also propel it.
In a new internal beta version of an IU 8 (which is the interface that Samsung uses on its Android phones), Android Authority has spotted a code chain which includes ‘siop_q7mq_sm8750’. This might seem meaningless, but “Q7MQ” is a code name that was previously linked to the Galaxy Z Trifold, while “SM8750” is the model number of the Chipset Elite Snapdragon 8.
So assembling this, it certainly looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 elite.
The obvious choice
It is not at all surprising – in fact, it would be surprising that this chipset was not used. After all, this is the upper chipset currently available for Android phones, and it is also used by the Samsung Galaxy S25 series and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
So, even if it is not impossible that the Galaxy Z Trifold can use something else, as perhaps the Exynos 2500 manufactured by Samsung used in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, it would seem a strange choice for what is certain to be the most expensive phone of the company to be used anything other than the best available chipset.
However, it is always possible that Samsung has chosen to reduce the cost using something else, so it is still somewhat reassuring to see the Snapdragon 8 elite mentioned here – even if it means that this triple phone will probably be exceptionally expensive.
The mention of the Snapdragon 8 elite also suggests that we will soon see the phone, because at the end of 2025, we will probably start to see the first phones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 – so if Samsung did not launch the Trifold Galaxy Z in the coming months, the company would probably opt for the next generation of this chipset.
But although this code channel is convincing evidence, we still cannot be completely safe that the Snapdragon 8 elite will be used.
We may find out in October-but reports suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Z Trifold may initially be available only in China and South Korea, you may not be able to buy it anyway. If it is a success, we expect there to be a more widely available successor.
