“The scarcity of water eroding agricultural capacity”

Lahore:

The chief minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, called for immediate and supported efforts to protect land and natural resources for future generations.

In its message to the World Day to fight against desertification and drought, the CM warned that the uncontrolled effects of climate change, deforestation and the growing rarity of water quickly eroding agricultural capacity and degrading soil fertility through Punjab. “Drought is not only a layer of sand, it is the signal of an imminent environmental crisis,” she said.

Stressing the commitment of his government to environmental protection, the CM announced that the Punjab government had allocated special funds in the 2025-2026 budget to geotaguate the areas stressed by water.

She said that new filtration factories will be installed and that existing ones are repaired to provide access to clean water in the province.

CM Maryam Nawaz underlined the leadership of Punjab in climate action, noting the introduction of the first complete climate policy of Pakistan aimed at meeting the challenges posed by environmental degradation.

It has also reaffirmed the determination of the government to expand the factory’s campaign for Pakistan, which focuses on sterile locking land. “Each tree is a symbol of life in the regions affected by drought. We will not let the earth suffocate, changing our habits is the only way to change the environment,” she added.
